Frequently asked questions

I want to volunteer. What do I do?

The Let’s Talk Story Club works with youth organizations and students who volunteer their time to “talk story” with seniors. If you are interested in volunteering or in coordinating a senior “memory collection workshop,” please send an email to info@letstalkstoryclub.org.

What do volunteers receive?

We operate on donations only, which helps us provide our youth volunteers with the book at no cost. All of our volunteers must agree to submit a final survey once their book is complete.

I’m a student. Can I receive community service hours?

Yes! The Let’s Talk Story Club is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. If you require a supervisor signature in order to receive school credit for volunteer hours, please follow these steps:

  1. Once you complete the book with your senior, you must submit the final survey using the QR code you received in your volunteer packet. Your submission must include a brief write-up about your senior’s Let’s Talk Story Club experience.
  2. Then email info@letstalkstoryclub.org requesting a supervisor signature. Please allow 3-5 business days for review and response.

Can I purchase the book?

Yes, the Let’s Talk Story book is available for purchase on the Go For Broke National Education Center’s (GFBNEC) online store. 100% of profits are donated back to GFBNEC to support their mission to educate and inspire character and equality through the virtue and valor of our World War II American veterans of Japanese ancestry.

Can I donate to the Let’s Talk Story Club?

Yes! Donations are greatly appreciated. They are the only way we can keep providing books to our youth volunteers who capture and preserve seniors’ stories.

You can also Venmo @letstalkstory, or send cash or write a check to The Let’s Talk Story Club and mail to 117 Briar Rose, Irvine, CA 92618.

Do the seniors need to be Japanese in order to create a book?

Absolutely not. The Let’s Talk Story book contains Japanese cultural references, however your seniors do not need to be Japanese to benefit from creating a memory book.
